Is there any proof from UOA that a 10w30 will shear less under hard use then a 5w30? The 10w30 having less viscosity improvers.

Can't speak from a gasoline perspective, but I know from my commercial UOA's that 10w30 shows less viscosity change than 15w40 in my diesels. And to the OP's point, 15w40 uses more VI than 10w30. That is comparing two of the same brand name products, both syn blends. I have not really compared 5w30 to 10w30 on that level.

If you live in a warm enough state, just use the 10w30, it is very likely to have less or no Vii's. Dave from redline has gone on the record their 10w30 and 5w20 have no Vii's.
