Forest Fire Ash in Air Filter

We had a lot of forest fires in our area this summer. My Fram air filter was coated in ash. No too terribly bad but enough that I changed it.

Does Fram make a Tough Guard for your application?

Not sure. I’ll check.. Are they good? This one was considered the “heavy duty” application. I take it Tough Guard” would be one up?

The ash was bad enough you could notice it on the hood of the car if it was sitting outside.

The Tough Guard filters are very lightly oiled and can hold more dirt/dust. The media is also a nice yellow color, too. Part number will start with TGA instead of CA

If the ash is that bad, it will certainly be better

That old filter was just getting efficient. I'd have doubled its run.

Never hurts to change it. I was in WA state when Mt St Helens erupted. No filter could handle that volcanic ash. Thousands of engines were ruined. The only ones that could do well were the old oil bath filters. Changed them daily.

Try and look for a cold weather filter with the layer of fleece before the paper

Forest fire smoke is organic.

Living in Palo Cedro California ever other summer it seemed we were smoked out by the wild land fires.
