I'm going back to Detroit from the 18-23rd for the Auto Show, but this time, I'd like to take in a little more than just the Show. I really don't know a whole heck of a lot about Detroit.

What else should I visit or do while I'm there? I can always just Google stuff, but that's not going to get me the input of people who know from experience.

Noteworthy museums, either auto, art, or both?

Worthwhile attractions?

Any advice is appreciated.

Already have an AWD Charger R/T reserved for the rental. Hope it snows a mountain. I miss snow.

Went in 2016, had a great time. Henry Ford museum, and dinner here - http://www.thelondonchophouse.com/

Rented a 2.0 Dart. It did okay! No complaints, fired right up at 13 degrees.

The heated steering wheel that I've never used in my Jeep would have come in handy.

x2 to both. There's also the Dearborn Inn.

Ford's Garage restaurant is fun too. (Apparently this started in Florida so perhaps you've been there?)

Henry Ford museum for sure and the Rouge truck plant tour has just been improved. I dont gamble so I have never been to the casino, some of my friends say that its nice, lots of good restaurants right next door in Greektown.
The Chrysler museum in Auburn hills is closed.

Not to sound like a broken record... if you haven't been to the Henry Ford, you need to go. Take the Rouge tour if you have time, but see the museum first. Just a note, it'll be closed on the 22nd.

Someone said to catch a Wings game (or a Pistons game). That's actually a good idea. Brand new facility and tickets are readily available. Even if you're not a fan, it's a nice place to wander around. Wings are at home on the 20th and Pistons are at home on the 21st.

There are tons of excellent food options downtown and near downtown. There are also great options out in the suburbs. Not sure where you're staying or what your preferences are. If you're a beer aficionado, there are many options down that avenue too.

It's also fun to take some time and just drive around to all the old plants... Ford Piquette Plant, Hudson Plant, Packard Plant, and Ford Highland Park are the big ones, but there are tons of other plants that have been repurposed and are still being used. The old Chrysler Lynch Road Assembly, where they used to assemble Chargers and Coronets in the '60s, is currently being used by an automotive finishing company, but it's largely the same as it was then. It also played a crucial role in the development in the atomic bomb in WWII.

We did the Henry Ford, toured the Ford F-150 plant and visited http://www.fordpiquetteavenueplant.org/

Lots of great places to eat as well.

We stayed here near Wayne State: http://innonferrystreet.com/

Hope this helps.

Good stuff. Thanks!

I'm staying at the Marriott in the GM HQ building, so I'll be kind of in the middle of everything from what I understand. Sounds like Henry Ford Museum and the plant are definitely. Going to check out the rest.
