This winter MPG worse than others

Blame the cold starts and the increased air drag!

The air drag change is bigger than most might think. I calculated a 12.5 % increase in air density summer to winter which translates directly to increased drag. A motorcycle has a really awful drag coefficient so not surprising I see a big drop in winter MPG. I have over 10 years of MPG records and the plot looks like a sinewave with the regular annual winter dips and summer highs.

A dodgy thermostat (one not closing fully) can kill mileage in cold weather.
I replace every other coolant change, along with the radiator cap.
