I got an email from Wally offering $10 off a $50 order for pick-up on their grocery items, and it just so happens I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel that's about due for an oil change. Surprise of surprises, the deal works perfectly for all things automotive.

Walmart has Rotella T6 on Rollback for $19.22. I got 2 of those and a 5 quart jug of Havoline 5W-30 for $13.27.

Total price was $51.71 minus the $10 discount. I'm tax exempt so the total cost was $41.71.

If you like to stock up on filters this is also a [censored] of a deal. I couldn't find one for the Grand Cherokee but the prices on FRAM online seemed to be cheaper than the local store.

I'm picking everything up tomorrow afternoon. If you text GROCERY to 474747 Wal-Mart will sign you up and if you google Wal-Mart Grocery you should be able to find the promo offer as well.

All the best

Steve Lang

P.S. I also wrote a psychological thriller this morning that was cleverly disguised as car buying advice.

Enjoyed your article, 2nd to last paragraph contained a surprise for me when you mentioned Scion along with some of the other unwanted orphans. Scion was made by Toyota as an attempt to attract young buyers, yes? Always thought they were just as good as a Toyota, just a branding thing but I am not in the business, just a casual observer so I defer to your experience of course. Just sayin', as they say cool

It all comes down to three things. Build quality, powertrains, and the true wild card...

The owner.

I believe Toyota typically had more conservative owners than Scion. We're not talking daredevils versus saints. But Scion, as you mentioned, had a slightly more youthful demographic that may have impacted the numbers a bit.

Also, the tC can have some engine related issues once it hits the 150 to 180 mark.

Guy in a JDM-tyte modded Scion didn't want to pay for a conventional oil change today. Kinda funny how kiddos will pay for pseudo-upgrades but refrain from general maintenance.

That type of behavior makes me glad that life allows you to be an idiot for at least a little while.

That kid will hopefully get the reality check he needs. I did my share of stupid things too. Actually, I do at least a half-dozen big ones every year.

I'm pretty sure all scion vehicles were true Jvin vehicles.

Pains me to say it, but much better than their USA assembled units.

When I had Suzuki's it was always fun to put identical vehicles next to each other. One made in Japan, one made in Canada. You could literally see the differences. The diffs were sealed with sealant on the front side, the Jvin units would have zero extra gasket material. Canada would have the bubble gum. Rear mains on Canada units leaked. Jvins didn't. Panel epoxy on the Jvin would have zero excess material, but enough so a small valley wasn't made which would hold fluids. Canada models had a line scraping excess off. That line held fluids and caused rust.

It was always interesting for me to pick them apart.

I wanted to buy a used 1998 Civic at a Saturn dealership. Somehow the driver's mirror fell off after the sales person ran it through the car wash. I ended up with a Saturn. Enjoyed your article.

Had a friend who found Stanley Fatmax jumpit boxes marked down to $35. He bought all 4 they had and they rung up at $25. I looked and these are $99 on Amazon.

My xB in my sig was a Jvin, far & away the best car I've ever owned, other than a nagging EVAP code issue (which is really no big deal, we dropped emission testing here anyway). We also had 4 xAs at my work that PM guys used, they all made it to 200K with no major issues. Looking forward to testing this WM Grocery deal, I signed up.

I wish I could agree about the Japanese assembled Toyotas being better than the US assembled, but in my one-man experience, what might have been true years ago is no longer the case. My wife's 2013 Camry (assembled nearby in Georgetown) is better assembled than my 2015 Prius (assembled in Japan). This Prius rattles and squeaks every day, while my old i30 (that I bought used) only in its teenage years developed one minor rarely provoked rattle, and the i30 was nothing more than a dressed up Maxima.

Well now it gets even more interesting.

2 Pennzoil 5 quart jugs for $33.94

Less $10 Pennzoil Rebate here...

https://wm6.walmart.com/pennzoil400?u1=j...=10&veh=aff

Less $10 Promo Code from Walmart if you text GROCERY to 474747 and get a prom code

Total Cost for 10 quarts is $13.94 plus tax.

All you have to do is pick it up. Not a bad deal!

If you actually qualify for both rebates/discounts. I just called the Walmart help number, and the customer service rep put me on hold to ask his supervisor, and I was informed that if you use the GROCERY code, that is valid ONLY for the grocery.walmart.com website, that the $10 ecard for Pennzoil oil is only if you buy the oil through the regular walmart.com webpage. Buyer beware, as they say.
