Oil tanker burning off coast of China

Dunno if it's better to let it burn or release in the water. The article mentions Valdez, but if that was crude and this light condensate, the environmental impacts may be vastly different.

Yes, very much.

Most will burn off, and what ends up on the water will evaporate or emulsify (& then decompose) fairly quickly.

My first question was "why are they hauling it (to South Korea)"?
As refinery feedstock?
If so... why not just finish it in the refinery it was produced at?

Maybe South Korea has *some* refining capability, but can't handle heavy crude?

Sarcasm without a is not. 31 missing in those waters with plenty of sharks is never a good sign nor is it nice.

I also suspect the burning is the most expedient way to minimize the pollution.

That's not an excuse to justify spilling more fuel/oils.
