I picked up 30 quarts of the Autozone clearance Mobil 1 HM 10w40. Also some Castrol HM 10w40. I think these will be ok in the 8.1 big block besides winter time. After i use these up will 0w40 cause more consumption? It has 140k miles and these engines are known oil burners anyways. I'm in northern Michigan so winters are cold. Thanks for any opinions.

Since you have a gas engine, yes they would be fine to use

OP you'll be fine to use the 0w40, I've used that and 0w30 in my 7.4 3500

284,000 miles on my 7.4 (454) ... run on pretty much the least expensive 15W-40 money can buy all its life.

Back in the 70's and 80's we didn't have 5W-30 for the winter, 10W-30 was usually it.
North Dakota winters are just as cold as Northern Michigan

I'm running 10W-40 Castrol HM in my 1998 7.4L. With this colder weather I do get some tapping on startup and it doesn't start as quick but once it warms up, it's fine.
