From Jalopnik: If this cold snap has exposed your car battery’s failing health, enter code EM308A at Advance Auto Parts to save 30% on a new one today (up to $50 discount).

Given how AAP provided discounts on a recent battery purchase, I'd consider making them my "first stop" when battery shopping.

While offering a "one day only deal" may seem limited, it's still good and sales may prompt them to offer more deals.

They offered it during a deep cold spell too!

Maaaaaan... this doesn't leave me much time to first get the current one tested before deciding on pulling the trigger on a new one. Boo APP for such a short sale.

2014 Mazda 3 Hatch 2.0L & 6spd - Idemitsu 0w20 Synthetic @ $0.75 a quart. (thanks Advance Auto Parts for the awesome deal)

Heavens! How much time would it take to have a battery tested?

How old is the battery? It might just pay to play the probability numbers.

FYI: Up here (NJ) the core charge is $21. I never even fronted the $21 as I walked in with the old one in hand.

The counterman, who I've known for years, reminded the new guy to press the "core received" key.

Walmart is almost always cheaper, even with the 30%.

Advance Auto Parts did 40% off ($50 off of $125) until the second half of this year. Since then it has been outside the realm of best prices for quite a long time.

As for Jalopnik, it's an advertorial piece of excrement from what was formerly Gawker (now banrkupt for slandering a professional wrestler). I would sooner trust one of their, "I don't have a car, but let me tell you what YOU should do..." 20-something Google sniffing journos, as I would trust a nympho to run a nunnery.

True that. What thinking exactly the same. AAP used to be my go to for AutoCraft Gold (and Silver) batteries with the codes you note, also $40 off $100+. No longer the case. AutoCraft battery prices have increased and it's very rare if at all to find any code that beats WM EverStart Maxx everyday price. Maxx has same as AC Gold 3 year total replacement warranty plus added 2 years prorated not found on Autocraft.

As for Jalopnik, don't regularly follow/read it. But in this case the article title is hyperbolic.

Personally, I refuse to pay a penny more than $49.99 for a battery for my truck... but figured someone might be able to save a few bucks on one from AAP.

I do NOT like Exide batteries.
They never seem to last much longer than 2 years max

same as what Atwoods farm & ranch sells

The AutoCraft battery claims to have 10 more minutes of reserve capacity. But your point about just getting one at Wal*Mart for less money EDLP is valid.

The local Advance Auto Parts store keeps closing, then a year or two later gets opened again, only to close again. So I have to drive to one of the adjacent communities to buy one.

I pass one or two AutoZone stores depending one which community. And of course, there is at least one Wal*Mart in each community as well.

I might as well go there.

I've had good luck with the $49 ValuePower battery I bought a year ago and put in the 99 Grand Marquis. I put the 2 year ~$75 battery in the 2010 Altima back in November.

And the Rural King option mentioned above is one I've considered as well. My Mazda3 is a little show on the below 0 days. I think the group 24 battery will fit in the box where the group 35 battery sits. I can get the 2 year replacement 72 month warranty Rural King battery for $65. They don't offer that battery in group 35.

It is tempting at that price.

That code works on everything, not just on batteries. I just ordered an idler pulley on it today and the discount worked.

FWIW, I have not found that to be the case, BUT it may vary a lot locally since WM's auto center is a concession.

Just had to replace the battery in the truck - $85 at AA after discounts, with a 3 year replacement warranty. Would have been $120 at Sam's with a 2 year warranty or $137 at Walmart with a one year warranty.

Walmart also won't replace the batteries under warranty, in my experience, and their prorating is useless.

AA is definitely the best cost option for batteries, at least around here.

If you can wait, though - AA is moving to Interstate within 6 months, according to the local store manager.

Wish I could find batteries at $50, apparently Rangers use a less common battery, looks like $150 at RK.

Anybody know if other sizes can be substituted, or how to figure that out?

I just plugged info for a random Ranger, 2011, 4cyl etc and it came up with a group 59 60 month battery for $70

Thanks, that looks like the right one, and available at my store. Not sure why their search showed no results when I tried it.
