Hey all. Noticed a pretty red valvoline HDEO bottle at Walmart a bit ago and was wondering how long it's been out and who's used it? I believe it is a cj4 oil! Opinions?

Here ya go..

Thanks for the link! I guess probably not a whole lot of UOA's yet? I've got 14 gallons of cj4 delo 400 that I snagged when all the ck4 started hitting the shelves, is the current white bottle valvoline HDEO similar in additives/ properties to the maxlife?

What if any remaining cj4 oils seem to have the most robust additive packages?

Why are you a fan of CJ4 vs CK4?

I am a fan of the Rotella CK4

Thanks for the links! It's my ignorance of the latest HDEOs that have me leaning towards cj4 until I know enough about ck4 to make an informed decision.

If you use a high mileage motor oil that conditions/swells seals do you have to stick with that oil or can you go back to what you’ve been using if you so decide?

You can switch back and forth between regular and high mileage oils.

However, I'd like to point out that Maxlife Heavy Duty doesn't mention anywhere that it contains seal conditions the way that Maxlife for passenger cars does.

It said “High mileage” on the bottle, I thought that was indicative of seal conditioners. I’m probably wrong but what else do they put in oil for high mileage vehicles?

Supertech is still CJ-4. I put it in my 7.3...it does really well on it. I wish I had used it sooner. It always had Rotella 15w-40, but the new formulation was making it run a tad funky at hot idle. I tried the ST and am really pleased with it. I hope they stay CJ-4 for awhile.

See above. I have my theories for the 7.3 and why this oil has been better for my truck, but it may not affect other diesels. My engine's fuel system is driven by high pressure oil, so the packages can make a difference. I found out the hard way.
