Have come to the conclusion that your just a number at manufacturing employers in this day & age. Years ago Companys & management would try & look out for you if you showed up daily, followed orders & worked safely on a daily basis. Now its just about the dollar & pushing the product out the door ASAP. I got terminated on this past Friday for having three group one write ups in one year. Group one write ups are making scrap. I was 1/8 of an inch off a 9 feet ramp from being square. I was a welder/assembler & my first write ups were a month into my new employment in January of 2017. I would have had one write off come off January 5, 2018 as which -- you drop a write off every calendar date. I have a baby on the way & a mortgage to pay -- I expressed that to my Supervisor & plant manager & they turned there heads as they walked me out the door. I take responsibility for my mistake but dont these employers/management have a conscious anymore??? They M.H. EBY throw a plethora of scrap away on a daily basis & this could have been handled differently I truly feel. Same thing happened to a guy who works next to me three weeks ago with him scraping a ramp -- he never got wrote up & it was sweeped under the rug. Is it because his Dad also works there & has 25 plus years in there? The company I worked for has alittle over 200 employees & is slow right now this time of year also. JUST A NUMBER!!! frown

Sorry to hear. I hope you find something else soon.

FYI, you're just a number at most companies these days, not just manufacturing.

FInd a mom and pop place to work if you want that family feeling. You wont earn as much, but theres more security, especially if you can prove your value soon after starting, and look eager and willing.

Berks County has lost many good manufacturing plants over the past two decades. Suggest DECA - East Penn manufacturing as one of the best places to work.

Thor- That is absolutely horrible, but could be a blessing in the long term. This does not sound like a great work place. Having metal fab skills is a great thing and will open up lots of better opportunities for you.

I couldn't even tell you how many times I've gotten called in on my time off to mitigate mistakes fellow co-workers have made that cost 10's of thousands of dollars, (up to $250K+ even!!) and these guys still do the same job. The company will do a root cause analysis, provide re-training and make us sign our lives away.

Like said, we're ALL just a number and would be done away with in a heartbeat if our companies could maintain stockholder's wealth without us. It's just the way it is.

Wait until they have to find someone to replace you, they'll wish they never let you go....yes, every employee these days is just a number...even me, and I work for the gooberment...the difference with me is it takes an act of congress to get rid of me should I decide to start screwing up...

The end of calendar and fiscal years are dangerous times. To reduce labor costs, firings are common. The OP was chosen as an easy target because of the write-ups. Performance based reasons are the cheapest option for trimming the labor costs.

There are still some companies that appear to care for their employees. My son-in-law works for Gordon Foods and it is very evident that they put a lot of effort into employee development and care. They work him hard, though.

I went through one "downsizing" decades ago, but my employer offered me a position elsewhere. Even then, the emotional stress was horrific (selling home, child on the way,etc.). I hope you can "get back on the horse" immediately by polishing up your resume and actively seeking a new job.

Very heartbreaking news and we all wish you the best moving forward. My downsizing turned out to be a lifesaving change for me in many, many ways.

My favorite is when they tell me how valuable I am to the company, but it doesn't reflect in my paycheck and I didn't get a raise this year. The excuse was "our whole industry hasn't really been seeing an increase this year".

My step daughter was working at a casino about a decade ago when a co-worker (cocktail waitress) gave birth on the floor. As she was lying there with a newborn baby, the supervisor stood over her and yelled "ten points for leaving early, you had seventeen, that makes 27 in one year--you're fired!

Same here, although I've never not gotten a raise. Problem is, the total slackers will get the same 2% as me. I have gotten some good ones over the years and some "special recognition awards (cash)" but it's rare. Petro/hydro chem industry for me.

My company got 5 new contracts with school districts and a health insurance company. They didn't hire any new staff, and they didn't give any raises, except one guy who got 1%. The engineer turnover in the managed services area is fairly prevalent.

Pfft, I'm in deathcare...straight commission...wanna raise, sell more!

Prearranged funeral plans, cemetery property & memorialization products.

I have been cranking out mailed pieces this morning, so I'll have somebody to call next week...

I used to work for a guy who was the coldest dude I've ever met. He would misquote scripture, told us family comes 2nd to your job because if you're not working you can't feed your family and your wife will leave you, and his answer to every personnel issue was this:
Fix it or Fire It...all said in a HEAVY southern drawl. He called him the Holy Roller Hitman because he claimed to be a preacher too, but loved nothing better than nuking staff.

All my life growing up, everyone pushed me to be a mechanical engineer.

At the aerospace company I worked, the mechanical engineers were treated the worst of anybody.
