bought this tester off of amazon. one thing is it does not have a option to select battery type. So does it matter the type in these kinds of testers?

Normally these testers have an option to select the type of battery. Are you sure it does not have that option? It says it covers several different types of batteries.

This one was $400 (haha) but it test batteries, alternators, and starters. It does give me options to select AMG, marine, and 6v batteries.

This type of tester gives you a general idea if your battery is failing. This one shows the internal resistance on the plates, regardless of the type of battery. For a basic battery tester, it looks OK. The one I have cost more and most of the functions I have only used a few times.
