The race track which had been scheduled to close Jan. 31, 2018 will have at least two more seasons after a new lease was signed Thursday evening. The about-face agreement was signed by a new track operating group, led by Agoura Hills racer Tim Huddleston and his Justice Brothers distributorship. They are calling themselves a Group of Motorsports Enthusiasts led by Tim Huddleston and Justice Brothers.

It is terrible in SoCal. They constantly talk about needing places for kids to go instead of street racing, yet they close all the racetracks. LACR was awesome and it closed because a condo development was built right next to it and people complained of noise.

Of course, it doesn't help that geniuses move into these condos and complain about noise from a racetrack that predates the condo development. We get that garbage here, too, on various developments. People in a new housing development complained about trucks driving in and out and idling all night when they moved into their new condos next door to the Husky truck stop, which has been there for 30 years. What did they expect to hear, songbirds?

Same thing happened with Laguna Seca. People that move to Goleta complain about Santa Barbara Airport. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever.

Back on topic, the track announcer at Ventura Speedway was lamenting the closing of Irwindale on Turkey Night. They started listing all the tracks that closed in SoCal and it was staggering.

A lot of these tracks started out as abandoned airfields after WW-II. The Gov't built airfields all over SoCal as places to store and stage aircraft out of reach of Japanese naval guns and flat top aircraft...

There are still some out there in Imp Co and elsewhere. The surfaces have gone away, but could be re-paved... http://www.airfields-freeman.com/CA/Airfields_CA_PalmdaleS.htm smile

Racing needs to be out in the country. Problem is, if the track is successful, it starts a small enterprise zone of machines shops, welding shops, and tire shops, etc. Those folks are not too noise sensitive. But if they grow and prosper, their employee base may be.

Then the restaurants and hotels come in, next thing you know, you have a town. A town w/o a charter to keep the race track isolated ...

The developers will do what they always do, and next thing you know, the track is closing ... frown

The same thing happens with both shooting ranges and airports.
