Y'all:

I find the photo spread for this story fascinating.

McClaren recently opened a service facility in Philadelphia. Check out the F1 in various states of undress. The McClaren F1 was one of the most magnificent road machines ever created. Be sure to enlarge photo #11. That's a 22 or 23 year old machine! That is serious automotive porn! Wow, just wow!

Disguuuuuuuuuuusting!

Love it.

I couldn't help but notice the 1992 Laptop they have on the table there, apparently active. I guess that machine has been riding it out since the first F1 hit the street.

Nice. Just a few years ago I was following a McClaren and as he pulled up behind a stopped vehicle at a light, the car got away from him somehow and he turned quickly, hit a concrete curb, and messed the car up quite a bit.

I had to look up McClaren on Google to confirm my I.D. and learn a bit more about them. It was a painful sight.

Do I want a McClaren or 3 'Vettes? Seems like a lot of car just to deliver cheese-steaks.

The McClaren F1 is worth anywhere from $10M to $15M.

Well, age is just a number. The thing has been stored in a climate controlled garage, never driven in rain, only has maybe a few thousand miles on it, what do you expect to find? Rust? Dirt? Yea right. I wouldn't expect anything less from something this valuable.

From memory the interface to the ECU was a custom card in those laptops, so they are keeping them alive as nothing else will allow an interface to the car. There was a great Discovery Chanel docco on it a while ago.

Love that spotless shop. That is the way they all should look.

Years ago, I did a Corvette engine change with my former brother in law in a rural auto shop near his farm. The place was a disgusting mess with junk everywhere. On day one of the job, my brother in law's cousin (the shop tech) could not find a screwdriver in the size he needed. Later in the day he went to the local hardware store and bought 30 screw drivers in various sizes. He walked into the shop and started throwing them (literally) around in every corner of the shop and on the floor. After he was finished, he announced that now he would be able to find a screwdriver when he needed one.

The F1 is beautiful, and so is their shop.

I wonder how many people remember the free retrofit they did for their owners years ago which was unheard of in the industry.
