I brought a family member's Mazda3 to the dealer for its 10,000 mile oil change.

There was an application form for a reduction in the price of a future Castrol oil change.
As I recall, details (or a copy of the receipt) from the oil change the car got needed to be included.

Just received my $20 CHECKPON from Castrol. It's made out to the dealership.

Since the vehicle will be seeing the dealer during its warranty period, I figure it's a good way to lessen the pain.

I know we're all thrilled over the coining of a new word. CHECKPON already has a place in my vocabulary.

I hope the 10,000 oil change was not the first oil change for the car.

It's one way to lessen the pain. You have to do what you have to do... But, it's obviously a way to lock you into dealer services too (a carrot they tossed to dealerships).

Formerly in marine engineering. In an earlier life I owned my own petroleum tank truck, and hauled for the majors and independent's.

Don't do 10K on VW 507 oil. It won't hold up. I did it once and followed up with a UOA. It utterly failed at maintaining TBN and protecting my engine. 7k for me ever since then.

I think I will post the results here as a PSA.

Why go to the dealer for oil changes while on warranty? The cost must be quite high for an oil change.

I would be curious to see a engine warranty claim denied or proven over oil related issues.

If it is free I would go to the dealer, otherwise, no.

I plan to do a UOA.
