No, this is not about radiophobia or EMR aspect of the radio link in general.

A scholarly white paper here that describes the effect of a mere presence of a smartphone within one's reach. Actually, Heraclitus warned us about this a few thousand years ago.
 
I didn't read it in depth but I have to wonder if it's just the smart phone or more of instant answer to questions and whims. I finally gave in and got a smartphone but I think my brain drain has been going on for years--always in front of a computer, so juggling work, internet forums, email, hitting wikipedia and the like is something I've done for like ever. One doesn't need a smartphone to get addicted to instant stimulation--the smartphone just cuts the tether.

Personally I'm not sure that BITOG and other forums aren't a form of social media. It's just not quite as inane.
