Funny and cool

I once worked on an air base that had a McDonald's on site. A couple guys got disciplined for driving a hi-lo in the drive-thru (misuse of government property).

Wondering who outside of the Detroit-Livonia area knows what a "Hi-Lo" is

I do, but only because I worked with some contractors from Livonia. RAM construction services, formerly Western Waterproofing.

Growing up in South Texas these are / were called forklifts. Living / working for Dow Chemical in NW Ohio, everyone there called them tow motors. Hi-lo is a new one to me.

I remember "real" Towmotor lifts from the 60s, and this thread prompted my use of Google. They are credited as inventing the genre, sold to Caterpillar in 1965, had management and labor problems MOSTLY attributed to the acquisition, and almost disappeared. Caterpillar has a joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. supplying products based on the originals.

Thanks for the memories.
