I found an online us retailer that sells this reasonably. What’s the word on this oil? Similar to pennzoil euro 0w40?

Shell Ultra 5W40 in Malaysia is a GTL synthetics.

$32.30 for four liters plus shipping is reasonable?

What's wrong with Castrol 0W-40 from Walmart, meeting the same specifications for half the price?

Honestly, I wasn’t inquiring about price. I have a gift card and asked the question I was curious about above. Nothing wrong with Castrol or pennzoil I use. Just curious.

This matches Pennzoil Euro 0W40, specs for specs.

If it has pure plus technology on a sticker, than it is GTL based (grp. III+) otherwise it is basic grp. III....

Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 is good stuff and one of the best oils made by Shell / SOPUS. It's a GTL full synthetic and full SAPS, just look at the OEM specs it carries: API SN, ACEA A3/B4, VW 502/505, BMW LL-01, MB 229.5, Porsche A40 and Ferrari approved. You don't get all those factory approvals unless you make a good oil.

The SHU 5W40 is very common in Australia and Europe, but much less common in North America where Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40 would be the equivalent product (or very close).

The ACEA and OEM specs above requires a HTHS > 3.5 cP, TBN > 10 for long drain intervals and Noack Volatility < 10%. All good stuff.

SR5 has covered all the main beats: Great oil. if you don't need low saps, you can't really do wrong with it

Doesn't seem like much between the 0W40 and 5W40. KV100 is actually higher on the 0W40 and the KV40 is lower so it ends up with a higher viscosity index.

If the 0W40 is all GTL and not any PAO then it might just be a little different, maybe with more VII in it. Could be that the 5W40 is more shear proof because it has less VII in it but just speculating entirely here.

I was speculating exactly the same myself.

KL31, you are using SHU 5W40 yourself right now, so how do you find it ?

Shell Helix Ultra 0w-40 just works - and at 22€/5 Liter, it also is great value.

Was running pretty smooth. Startup was quieter than the Helix HX7 10W40 I was running before. Car/engine is undergoing some transplanting soon and been out of action for a while. I plan on keeping the SHU in it regardless of time though as it's only done several thousand kms. My engine would probably run fine off the cheapest islac XW30 oil though. SHU is definitely overkill for it. But I did feel like I won something by buying it for $35 a jug.

Yeah I picked some SHU 5W40 for $37 a jug (5L) and some HX7 10W40 at $20 a jug. Good buys for Oz, but I think I'm going to stick to 30 grades from now on, I don't need that much oil in my 4-cylinder car.

I found this post on here with oil analysis done in europe compared to Addinol 0w40 and Mobil 1 0w40 New Life. If it doesn’t enable you to see it will bump up the oil analysis and also attach the German report which was listed within the topic discussion.

This was German report on topic Shell first column Mobil 1 third column.
