Picked up some OE iron sights for my vintage 22lr rifle, unfortunately one of the screw holes already has a resident (aka a sheered off screw) in place. Looks like its approx 3/32-5/32 inch in diameter so its pretty tiny. Local range estimates $20 to drill it out which seems pretty reasonable to me. Only thing I would be tempted to do first is to drill it a little by hand and tap a small torx bit in place to try and unscrew it. Thoughts?

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You might slip and bubba it up worse. For $20 bucks let a gunsmith do it while you have a beer across the street.

I would have to lean towards letting the smith do it, unless you are mostly versed in such activities. I had a screw head break on a brand new Remington rifle 8 years back. It was the little screw in the scope base slot, getting ready to mount a scope.

The gunsmith asked me to leave it with him. I don't know how he got it out, maybe a 'trade secret'? When I picked it up is was good as new.
