After producing skype for linux, then sort of abandoning it, MS committed itself to creating an up to date version of Skype for Linux and recently the 'released' version was made available.

I suffered thru the beta version which looked like skype for business; needlesstosay, using it was insufferable.

Released version looks professional and supports video as did previous versions.

I am running Ubuntu lastest LTS (maybe 16.04?) on my Lenovo T430;

Will be trying the RPM version on CentOS 7.x; i believe I read that is not a supported distribution

I can call POTS lines for $35? a year within the US; that is a bargain IMHO.

Worth a look; still need to read the EULA

I have a love hate relationship with Ubuntu. Thankfully Chrome loads, sound works and lightening fast on $45 SSD in a 7 year old laptop.

The mic driver on my Lenovo Ideapad U460 Laptop is garbage along with web cam.
Skype is out.

Then your love/ hate relationship might be best directed at the hardware manufacturers who don't make drivers available to anyone not named Microsoft or Apple. :^)
