A lot of cars use these spring clips, I'm working on a Honda specifically. The clip is rusting badly so I want to replace it.

I bought an OEM replacement clip, was about $2.00. Now the problem is replacing it? There are no instructions on the service manual on how to do this, has anyone done this before? I can't figure out how the clip holds on to the box to release it.

The clips look like this:

The clips for my airbox lid have small lugs pointing "3 and 9" so you give the thing a gentle squeeze with long nose pliers and in they go.

Your metal clips may have a wire hinge--small as a brad pierced through the plastic. Driving said wire out might be necessary.

I agree re removing the box. It'll make the job a bunch easier.

I know I had to replace a spring clip that looked just like that one on my 2008 Hyundai Santa fe 2.7L years ago. The bottom portion of those clips just 'hooked' through a slot in the plastic lower housing IIRC. Clip was missing when I bought the vehicle used and of course the local Hyundai dealer had to order me one.
