If you've got the space, building an extended table and fence for the mitre saw is handy. For a project with long boards I just screw the saw to couple 12' 2x6's on saw horses, with a block at each end the height of the table. Also you can screw end blocks to the 2x6 table if you want every board exactly the same length. A proper mitre stand would be handy if you move your saw to different sites a lot though, and setting up end blocks would be faster for short boards atleast.
