Hi, I am looking for oil recommendation for 2008 Mazda 3 S with 2.3 engine and 5 speed automatic transmission. The car has 98k miles, I bought the car with 93000 miles and changed the oil right away with Castrol Edge 5w-20 (it was on sale) and WIX filter. I have been thinking about Mobil 1 0w-20 or 30 since I've had good results with it in the past in my 2000 Miata. Thanks!

Member "tig1" drove a Ford Fusion with that same 2.3L engine. He uses M1 0w20 with great luck and zero issues with 10k mile OCI. I believe he put over 400K miles combined on M1 0w20, and loves it.

When I had a Mazda 6 with that 2.3L engine - I found that my engine liked Castrol Magnatec 0w20 more than any other oil. It was the quietest and smoothest during operation on Magnatec, compared to other oils on WalMart shelf. Mobil1 0w30 is also another great option.

Since you’re using Castrol Edge I’d stick with that. It’s a [censored] good oil. You can go Magnatec and save a few bucks.

Few here have put as many miles on 0-20 oils as I have. My 2007 Fusion 2.3(same engine as yours) has 215K at 10K OCIs and still performs like new with M1 0-20. The engine is very clean, no sign of engine wear or timing chain noise, uses no oil in 10K OCIs, and no leaks. With my last three Duratec I-4 Ford engines I have accumulated around 425K on M1 20wt oils with most of that with 0-20.

I put Amsoil XL 5w20 in the girlfriend's 2008 Mazda 3 with the 2.3 engine. Engine runs smooth as the day she got it and no noises at all. I use the Mazda filter cartridges as they are very well made and priced well.

All this 0w20 and 5w20 [censored] is for stupid CAFE. Use 5w30 or 0w30 and never look back. 173k on my mazda3 with Xw-30 and she purrs like a kitten.

Have you ever tried xw20 in the car? I would guess from the ignorant post you haven't.
