2009 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, gas, 17" on Z71 package. Sticker on door jamb is missing, don't see a chart in owners manual specifying for the 17". New Michelin Defenders but same size as the 17" OEM...also same 'E' load rating. Never paid much attention to the old tires, but tire shop (per TPM) set these at high 40's front and mid 60's rear. Where is the best place to get a definitive answer? Dealership?

My dad had an 04' Duramax and it called for 55 front 80 rear. But when not towing you could probably put the rears at 65 for a better ride.

The 2012 issue of the Tire Guide ( 2012 Tire Guide ) has the following:

2009 Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 Crew Cab Std. Box (LT/LTZ) Z71 Pkg.: LT265/70R17/E 121/118Q 65psi Front / 80psi Rear

or

2009 Silverado 2500 HD 4x2 Crew Cab Std. Box (LT/LTZ) Z71 Pkg.: LT265/70R17/E 121/118Q 65psi Front / 80psi Rear

Great--thanks!! I'll make adjustments today.
I don't tow during the coldest winter months so will probably keep the year at 65?
That would surely be okay if 65 is correct for front?

I would think that the pressure could go lower in front and rear when riding empty. As to how much lower, I go by how the truck feels and do the chalk test.

Chalk test, could you please explain? I put my snowies on my truck the other day and have them all at 38 PSI. I was considering 35 but with winter fast approaching I figure they will be close to that anyways soon.

If you tow or haul often you'll need to compromise, but most pickups (especially diesel) are going to be heavier in the front than the rear. Couple that with the greater propensity of front tires to wear the shoulder of the tread in turns, and I run my fronts higher than the rears on my C3500. Firestone Transforce A/T's rated for 80 PSI and I run them about 60/55 unless I'm hauling something heavy. If you can find a load/inflation chart for your tires you can take that and the weight/balance of your truck and do the math.
