Not true. You just took a different path.
Here this sums up how I feel. Not mine, provided by another vet.
Don't thank me for my service.
It was merely the glorious result of a misspent youth.
A few dusty medals and a uniform in the back of the closet.
Brothers and sisters to the bone and jokes only we understand.
We thank you for keeping it running.
The truckers, the nurses, the carpenters and the cops on patrol. The teachers, the preachers,
the downtrodden and those working to pull themselves up.
The musicians and poets and artists that give it a beat.
The single parents and the never-retired.
The kid in the library after closing time.
It's worth defending. I'm counting on you.
We're all veterans of the experience.
If they come for you, they still gotta get through us first.
We never sleep, so sleep tight.
So don't thank me. I enjoyed it, not every minute, but I made good friends their and lasting memories.
So if any you have pictures share them, because you were young and admit it, you had fun.
