Just obtained a used small Wood Chipper & need to change the crank case oil.

The chipper is a no-name brand, and is about 35 years old.

The motor is an older 5 HP Briggs & Stratton, black color.

I assume that 30 wt, or maybe a 15w40 is good? We will be using it in winter and spring...about 35-65 degree temps.

Thanks,
GL

Got anything in your stash you're been meaning to get rid of? I wouldn't hesitate to put in 15w40, 10w40, 5w40, 10w30, 5w30

I assume multi weight (10w30) is ok, for this B&S engine?

Yep, no problem in your climate.

You aren't from Fargo or Brainerd are you? grin2

Scars remind us of where we have been, but do not have to dictate where we are going.

I'd change it and run it for a while and change it again. I'd do a 10w-40 or a 15w-40.

This, flush it with anything on hand and then refill with something good.
