Isn't their a better kind of grease, or is that really what it's made for?

My echo trimmers require white lithium grease for the gear boxes, haven't worn one out yet, so it must work.

When is good enough not good enough? Oh, this is BITOG.

Funny thing, I just bought some White Lithium Grease today for an air tool the required it, and then realized I probably have the same stuff in the Stihl tube for my hedge trimmer (or as I call it, the bush light saber). But not sure it's the same stuff. So I'll use each for it's intended purpose. Not very BITOG. I should be doing VGA (virgin grease analysis) or searching crosslistings or tracking down grease OEM's something.

You mean Echo doesn't have their own gearbox grease ?

Stihl has their own gearbox grease. I got a tube just in case.

White lithium? Is not lithium with MoS2 in some lighter NLGI grade what is usually required?

Yeah echo makes their own. It's $18 for the 14oz tube. Doesn't mention anything specific. Just says white lithium grease.

Mine says it's a 40 gram tube and I paid $2.99.

I can't imagine an Echo trimmer needing 14 ounces of gearbox grease, but what do I know.

According to its temperature range (130 C) it is basic Lithium 12-hydroxystearate....or plain Lithium grease with graphite...or MoS2 (even better)!

Most probably in NLGI 0 or 1 range....you can get this in any farm supply for lets say 5-7 eur/kg
