I decided to purchase and cut open a few Toyota OEM oil filters. I have the D1, D3 and the G2. Supposedly all are interchangeable???

The first pic is the D1, 2nd pic is D3 and third pic is the G2. The D1 and D3 are made in Thailand and the G2 in made in the good ol' USA.

Take a pic of the dome end of the US-made filter. What is the date code on it? smile

Means it's made by Purolator. I'm not impressed at all. Seems that they are getting all the oem contracts these days. That filter doesn't look too well made either.

Here come the Purolator sharks. They smell blood.

Cannot see signatures any longer so it doesn’t matter.

I guess the metal end caps impress me. Should they?

My whole life I've mostly run either orange cans or tough guards or OEM. OEM are usually the cheapest from my experience (price anyway). Most people I know run quick lube brands. Oddly, nobody I know has had an engine failure from oil issues. I don't get the fascination with $12+ oil filters used with $15-20 synthetic oil for 5-10k miles. But that's just me.

Thinking you mean, it's on the dome end of the filter can, not element endcap. As for code meaning, manufacture date code and discussed HERE.

The Thai Toyota OFs typical no endcap construction. The length difference likely attributable to the difference between longer 4386 equivalent application vs shorty 4967 equivalent application. Interesting thing about the Thai made spin on filters, take the can, adbv and bypass away and you've got what the current Toyota cartridge filter looks like.

I like the silicone adbv on the Puro made Toyota. What I can see of it, looks ok.

Made July 31, 2017 in Fayetteville by Purolator. I would say Toyota has completely specified their G2 filter to their own requirements. They must not like louvers closed either. The G2 and D1 are the same outer size, big difference on the inside, especially the Thai filters have deep pleats and a small center tube. That's the way it should be IMO. On the G2 box, what does it say "Made in (something something) USA?

Looks like "Made and printed in USA". Apparently the box made in the USA also.

I'd rather buy a Fram Ultra and do 3 OCI's for 20K miles.
