Filter brands (spin-on)

I did some searches and couldn't find anything, so figured I'd ask.

Has anyone observed any real differences between brands of motorcycle filters, especially spin-ons like my 2011 V-Strom DL650 takes? There have been some notable reversals on Fram filters here at BITOG, but I thought the motorcycle fans might have a better idea of what's going on as it applies to motorcycles.

In my case, the genuine Suzuki filters seem expensive even on eBay.

But Mike Ehrmentraut is threatening to hurt me if I don't buy Fram.

(Fram claims 95% down to 20 microns for the PH6018, the only filter they offer for my bike.)

The same oil filter as my 1999 Suzuki Marauder VZ800.
I changed the 15W-40 oil every 8-10K and the filter every 20,000.
It has 84,000 miles on it.

Suzuki uses a less commonly used fine-pitch thread (1mm) on the oil filter mounting boss so the more widely available premium oil filters (e.g. Fram Ultra XG6607) won't fit.

There's a company that makes adapters for some Suzuki models that allows you to use the more common 1.5mm thread pitch oil filters - search and you'll find it.

Click on this.

You'll have to get the filter and number off here the guy didn't have enough Information Technology brains to put you directly to the links in question. Find one of these that filters 20 microns at 99% your motor will thank you.

NAPA Gold 1356 on metric bikes, which I believe is the longer version of the 1359 . . . been using them for quite some time.

This.
Bales makes the adapter, move up to the common 7317 size, and ride on.
To directly answer the OP question... Not a lot of differences in the Suzuki filters. I've run them all, Factory, Hi_Flo, K&N, Fram. The major redeeming quality of swapping the stud is to have more options and save some money.

Hiflo Filtro makes (or used to) the oil filters that K&N offers for motorcycles. HiFlo Filtro pretty widely available various online sources.

http://www.hiflofiltro.com/why-hiflo - they lay out the suppliers they source materials from... pretty cool they divulge this info.

http://www.hiflofiltro.com/catalogue/filter/HF138 -- Standard filter for DL 650 V-Strom in the 2011 model yr range

http://www.hiflofiltro.com/catalogue/filter/HF138RC -- Upgraded filter w/ synthetic media for DL 650 V-Strom 2011 range --> This would be the one K&N likely is rebadging and selling, note the hex nut fitting on bottom.

Whatever I use, I want it to have a silicone ADV. Nitrile and heat don't mix, and bikes get hot (even water cooled).

I did use a Supertech filter on my bike, but it was for a initial flush oil change (only 500 miles).
I have a bunch of clearance Fram Tough Guards, and a few other misc filters (the old Purolator Synthetic, Old Mobil 1) that will be my filters for quite a while on my Honda VT1100.
