I'm disappointed.

I've had nothing but iPhones since the 3G came out in 2008. My usual upgrade interval has been 2 years. I got the 3G (my first smartphone) in 2008, then the iPhone 4 in 2010, then the iPhone 5 in 2012. The iPhone 5 was such a great phone that I kept it for 3 years, only upgrading when the iPhone 6S came out in Sept. 2015 (and that's my current phone).

In the past, I've looked forward to the big software updates that precede the release of the new iPhones every year. Often times, they introduced great and useful and fun new functionality, and the integration of the new software has been relatively seamless.

That wasn't the case this time. There aren't many bugs, but the ones that have popped up are pretty annoying.

Here are the bugs I've noticed so far:

Bluetooth connectivity with other devices:

- Phone will no longer connect with my Escort Max 360 radar detector's iPhone app, Escort Live.

- Phone used to connect seamlessly with my Garmin Forerunner 220 GPS running watch. Now, I have to turn the phone off, then back on, sometimes several times, to get it to connect with the Garmin Connect app and download my runs and rides.

Touch ID problems:

- The biggest thing I've noticed is when opening text messages from a locked screen. This process used to be seamless - I'd slide the text icon over when I received a text, then put my thumb on the home button, and it would always open right up. Not any more. about half the time, it refuses to recognize my thumb. What's weird is that when I actually press the home button, it will always recognize it. It seems to be just when I try to open Messages from the locked screen by sliding the Messages icon over that it doesn't want to recognize. I also have it set to recognize multiple fingers on each hand. Sometimes it will recognize a different finger when I try that, and sometimes not.

Messages (texts) Problems:

- There's a problem where the Messages app will hang up and the window where you enter the text won't come up. I've encountered it several times but I'm having trouble remembering exactly the problem right now. Next time it happens and it's fresh on my mind, I'll try to remember to post it up here.

General "Laggyness":

- This doesn't really affect functionality, but I've noticed that the Home screen is a little slower and much less smooth to return when I press the Home button to go back to the Home screen from an app. It will "hang up" for a second or so, sometimes. All my iPhones have done this, I think, to one degree or another, for some reason. But now it's worse since this iOS 11 update.

A couple of days ago, Apple released the first patch - iOS 11.0.1. I was initially relieved - I was confident that Apple had fixed the problems I'd been experiencing. I was wrong.

My purpose for this post is information sharing and also it's a good place to document issues. I don't really want this thread to turn into an Apple-bashing session or a discussion on the merits and drawbacks of Apple vs. Android. Instead, I'd like to hear from those of you who have iPhones who have or have not had these issues since adopting iOS 11. Any tips for minimizing or fixing these problems is also obviously appreciated.

Also, I would like to make Apple aware of these problems. Anyone have suggestions for the best way to document the problems and send to Apple?

I have the same phone, with the same results you do. It will often freeze quite often, and if I touch things on the screen it will not respond. I've had to reboot probably 12 times in the last week.

This. This. This.

Whenever you have an iOS problem, this is step 1.

Plug into iTunes, backup, restore from backup.

It fixes so many problems. My experience with iOS 11 has been great, but I have an iPhone 8, so different boat I'm sure.

I'm going to wait until they put out the usual update about one week after the main iOS is released. It seems Apple is rushing these things out without checks like newspapers and magazines do without proofreading.

It's already out, iOS 11.0.1, check your software updates.

11.0.1 is already out. I waited for it as well.

To your second point, an OS is an immensely complex piece of software. No matter how well you test, or how many use cases you think you identified, you cannot possibly find every problem.

That's odd. I am on the Apple Public Beta program and got all of the iOS 11 beta releases with no issues. For whatever, reason when I try just now to do a software update, I am not seeing the 11.0.1 release.

EDIT: Just found my problem. From bgr.com, a sentence WAY down at the bottom "iOS 11 beta testers including developers and regular users who still have beta profiles installed on their devices should delete them first to be able to install the update."

Everyone carry on with their rat killing...

I can understand the disappointment but I certainly haven't experienced any of the problems you list. Our family has four iPhones, all paired with numerous Bluetooth devices (car, home stereo, GPS, even a hat) and all have worked flawlessly since the update. I updated two of our phones the day 11 was released and the other two the day after, so far two of us have done the latest release. None of us have experienced any of the slowdowns you note at all. In fact, neither myself nor have I heard anyone experienced any issues whatsoever. FWIW three of the phones are 7s and one is a 6.

All experience is local of course but that's been mine.

Oh you don't need to document the problems Apple is aware. That's just one of the ways they get you to move they the newest and not so greatest POS their selling!

6S here, on ios 11.0.

Got big slowdowns on safari sometimes. Can’t even lock screen, go home or whatever. Eventually after 30-60sec, it unfreezes itself.

I just updates to 11.0.1 last night, I’ll see what happens.

I feel a big improvement in functionality in 11 vs 10, without compromising simplicity too much. Like it so far. I wasn’t an Apple lover but in my region there’s always problems with restrictions on google play store, so... i finally went to ios with a second hand iphone 4, then a 5c, then that 6s.

I’m a beta tester for all of Apples software.

I will submit a report on the problems you’re experenicng.

Other’s please feel free to post them here or PM me and I will work a submission to them.

Thanks folks.

6S here. I've done a hard reset but not a restore from itunes.
iOS 11. I'm loading 11.0.1 now
messages:
Latest received message is not view-able, I can see the top of it an pull it up a little but only the top line. It's like it's stuck under my keyboard.
Screen stutters when opening or switching between apps.
Can't kill some apps by double clicking and swiping up.
Fonts sizes are a complete mess, some too big, some with poor spacing, some only partially displaying. I'm using only one click above default size.
I ended up with 5 empty favorites folders. I restored favorites from icloud and they weren't the the latest that I had backed up.
I initially lost connectivity with my bluetooth headphones. Re-paired. Now I'm getting booted off during phonecalls. I went back to my wired headset:(.
Siri actually asked me to unlock my iphone before she would read my latest texts. This was NOT after a reboot.
Search function can no longer find anything in my notes.
Photo import to PC takes several tries to connect, then several more for my PC to find any photos.
mailbox constantly shows incorrect number of unread emails.
Siri can no longer find the "Voice Memo" App.
Friend Finder map shows just a blue screen 10% of the time.
Double-click for Apple-Pay no longer working

Yes. This is exactly the problem I've had with my 6S.

I held off updating my 6s for a while because of all the problems I heard about, and finally last weekend I did the update (11.2.2) and I have not noticed any problems at all, the battery life seems the same to me and if anything the phone seems to work faster than before.
