2004 Audi A4 Quattro. 3.0 V6. 5 speed (01V) auto transmission.

The Chilton manual says 9.5 quarts? Is this correct? That's a lot of gear oil!

In comparison, the front diff on the CVT fitted models as well as the rear differential only requires ~1.5 quarts.

The 9.5qt is for the transmission oil. The front differential should take about a quart and the center about a quart and a half.

Makes more sense. Just a typo on their behalf.

It is a Chilton's, after all. If you plan on keeping the car long term it's best to invest in the Bentley manual for the car.

I am going to buy 4 quarts and do the front end first just in case.

I have some 75w-140 I could top off with the rear end if I am a little shy.
