What are the thoughts on doing this in GA? I figure the car will like a thicker viscosity in the heat here.

Is the main reason for the different spec from the I6 CDI the emissions equipment?
If so, would this oil be acceptable for an offroad only vehicle with this no longer attached?

If the information presented by Mobil is correct "your vehicle manufacturer recommends a 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40 or 5W-50 viscosity and oil that meets MB-Approval 228.51, MB-Approval 229.31, MB-Approval 229.51 or MB-Approval 229.52.", then an API HDEO like TDT is similar to specified oils (MB 228.51 - in terms of sulfated ash, important for DPF longevity) except ZDDP is slightly higher (than 229.31/229.51).

Unless it's under some kind of extended warranty, use away. Also consider Rotella or Delo 5w40. A good spec oil would be Valvoline Synpower 5w40.

If emissions are deleted you can revert to 228.3, 228.5, 229.3/5 as per

Mobil 1 TDT is not MB-Approved but is equivalent to a 228.31 which is NOT recommended for a DPF equipped MB car diesel; just a DPF equipped MB heavy duty truck engine. It has too much ash for the small DPF on newer MB diesel cars.
