Which one is more suitable for my car which is a Mini Cooper S which has direct injection, twin-scroll turbocharger, and variable valve timing. Oil temp is usually between 105-120 degrees C. Which would be low in calcium and still provide adequate protection.

Owners manual says any of the following SAE 0w 40, SAE 0W 30, SAE 5W 40, SAE 5W 30

OP is asking about M1 0w-40 ESP, which is not the same as the regular M1 0w-40.

The ESP version is not high in calcium, AFAIK, because it's a low SAPS oil.

What is SAPS? thanks.

What year is your Mini Cooper S? What spec does it say to use? Does it use LL-01 like US-market MCS calls for? What are your driving conditions?

Actually it is not a Mini Cooper S but a BMW 1.20i with the N13 engine (Same as N18 engine found in the Mini Cooper S only it is mounted longitudinally.) I mentioned my car as a Mini Cooper S as the 1 series is not sold in the U.S and not to confuse you guys.

OK, but viscosity grades aside, does it call for any particular mfg spec such as BMW LL-01 or LL-04?

LL-01, LL-01 FE, LL-04.

The owners manual will not only give a viscosity, it should also give a BMW oil specification.

BMW LL-01 is a high SAPS oil with Euro ACEA A3/B4 spec
BMW LL-04 is a low or mid SAPS oil with Euro C3 spec

Those M1 ESP oils are C3 oils. Good oils of that is what you are looking for. But so are the high SAPS (non-ESP) versions if that is preferred.

May I ask what country you live in and what is the sulphur content of your fuel ?
If high sulphur I would run an A3/B4 and BMW LL-01 oil.
If low sulphur fuel then the C3 with BMW LL-04 is fine.

10mg/kg according to state refinery report. I have no idea if this is high or low. I live in Istanbul, Turkey. Summers here are usually between 27 C - 35 C while in winters it can get cold as -5 C.

Full report of the petrol found here is in the link:

That is 10 ppm sulphur, I consider that low. Temperature is no problem.

Both ESP oils listed should work, plus the full SAPS M1 0W40 A3/B4. We don't get 0W40 ESP here (only 0W30 ESP and 5W30 ESP) it must be unique to your market. Avoid regular M1 5W30 as it's a ILSAC GF-5 oil.

I like the M1 5W30 ESP.

Thanks!

What would be your view on using Motul 300V?

Motul 300V is one of those oils I have admired from afar. It looks good on paper but unless racing or something, I've never been convinced it's worth the extra price above regular name brands like Shell, Castrol or Mobil.

Even if racing I would probably step it up to M1 15W50 or Edge 10W60, good high zinc PAO based oils.

For you the big thing is get a oil with the correct BMW LL-01 or LL-04 spec, as that is what the engineers who made the engine want you to use.

BTW I enjoyed my time in Instanbul and Canakkale.

Thanks for the advice!

That M1 5W30 ESP carries Porsche C30, that is probably one of the highest quality oil specs you can get.
