Are there some brands that aren't HDEO? Or are all 20w50 apart of the hdeo family?

I know 15w40 has a strong additive pack ( usually) but I've never paid attention to 20w50.

20w50 are usually PCMO.
Mystik has a 15w50 HDEO, but I have no idea what diesel engine would call for it.

Even now, in parts of the developing world, the two primary oil grades are 15W40 & 20W50. I would say that PCMO can be either whereas HDDO might usually be 15W40, but not exclusively. In these regions you might also find 20W40 oils which in my experience make stunningly good HDDOs.

older engines of any type can benefit from a higher viscosity @ running temps to compensate for lost oil pressure due to wider worn clearances. early poorly made HD motorcycle engines needed straight 50 + 60 weight oils + still leaked like a siv!!!

Shell makes i think 2 20W-50 HDEO's, Rimula R3-X and R2 Extra, both diesel only rated, no gasoline engine ratings, 20W-50 is rare among HDEOs.
I've seen all these viscosities of HDEO :
SAE 30
SAE 40
SAE 50
1975 Ford Capri II Ghia 3000 V6, - Valvoline VR1 20W-50
1988 Ford Escort MkIV 1.6 Xr3i Cabrio, - Shell Rimula R4X 15W-40 HDEO.

The Mystik 15W-50 is semi-synthetic, relatively inexpensive, and works GREAT in Harley Davidson engines.

Well , 20W50 in HDEO and PCMO are common here.

Except for the few mentioned here. 20W50 HEDO is almost impossible to find in the USA, yet is readily available throughout the rest of the world. Frustrating for sure.

Only ones I know of are the two mentioned here, Mystik JT8 (15/50 semi syn) and Amsoil (20w50 syn).

I don't think we saw much of a 20w-50 in any type of HDEO beyond CF, really, and that's when CF was on everything.

I just cleaned off the shelf at Walmart of 20W50 Castrol motorcycle oil on 1/2 price. I'll try it out in my LML Duramax next summer. Petro-Canada just rolled out 2 Duron 20W50s and 15W40s; Classic GH-4 and Extra CJ-4.

I believe Petro-Canada now makes a 20W-50 HDEO now.
