Top off with same oil.
1 qt 143,987
18 oz 145,023
1 qt 145,443

No leaks. Can't see it burning but obviously she is.

Thinking 5k with pretty much any oil.

Fairly low mileage to be using that much oil. My 2010 5.4L had 158K on it when I traded it on my PSD and 45% of those miles were towing. I used 5W-20 during the first 100K and 0W-20 for the remaining 58K and it did not use any oil.

Any chance you have some valve guides leaking or a stuck ring?

I'd run 15w40 in it if it was using that much oil.
Alot of people have good luck with the 10w40 in the 5.4 and the 15w40. I ran 10w40/ 10w30/ 5w30 and 5w20 and noticed no difference in anything.
So I went back to 5w30 but mine uses no oil.
I wouldn't hesitate to use a thick oil if it was using.
Even 20w50.

This ^^^^. Try a 10w-30.

Have you checked the PCV? If you replaced it did you use an OE part? That's where I'd look first for an oil consumption issue when there are no leaks, then work from there.

Congrats!

You'll never have to change your oil again as long as you own this vehicle!

1) Start adding 15W-40 or even 20W-50 (whatever you find cheap)
2) Filter every 10,000
3) drive it until she dies.

thank you all! interesting posts.
I did change the PCV recently, OEM always.
she used to burn 1 qt every 3k, since I had her at 24k miles.

Could be valve guides or stuck rings. Will have to look into it. With this engine, surely not pulling plugs and pouring (ATF, etc.) in the holes.

Thanks to this site, i have plenty of 10w40. might try that but was hesitant in the winter in central NY.

If she still uses oil (at the same rate you listed) After you've tried the pcv valve and cleaners it will be a blessing in disguise. Like was already suggested, just change the filter. Never have to change the oil again. Use a fram ultra oil filter and change it every 15k. Now that's low maintenance.

Added to oil or have to go via plug hole?

+1
I'm thinking valve guide seals.

Haven't pulled plugs. PITA.

Added 8oz MMO last week. 400 miles later the oilmis getting darker.
Today I added 8oz 10W40 and 8 oz MMO

Long ago I owned a 1974 Toyota corona. It drank a quart per week (250 miles) changed the oil filter every 4-6k Ran great. No oil change ever.

I'd toss a can a BG109 (EPR) in there for the duration of this oil change. Let it work on the rings for a 1,000 miles or so. Then change the oil and filter when due.

I think you'll see a gradually dropping oil consumption

KREEN is another good choice, but a bit more aggressive ...
