2011 Ford Fusion with 2.5 4 cyl. 91,500 miles.

The alternator was making a noise that sounded like a bearing. I checked carefully with an engine stethoscope to make sure it was the alternator.

When I installed the new alternator I put on a new belt while I was at it. The new belt was a Gates but I had to get the belt tensioner to the max to let me let the belt on. it does not seem overly tight now though.

The new alternator makes a bearing noise now although not as load as the old one. I thought the belt would break in and stretch some but with 250 miles on it the alternator still makes some noise.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

With parts quality now, you almost cannot assume a new part as good unless it is tested.

Sounds like nothing wrong except you get a bad alternator?
Did you test to see if it generates amp as per the specification?

With the engine running spray the inside of the belt with a little water. If the noise changes, it's related to the belt not the bearings.
