Cam phaser operation

It will throw a code for cam and crank out of sync, or unable to control cam operation.
Why do you think is acting up ?

No problems. I just wanted to know what effect on engine operation a cam phaser can have.

I have an ecotec 2.4 that had codes for both intake and exhaust. Changed the actuators and honestly couldn't tell the difference other than the check engine light no longer on lol

5.4 Fords sound just like a diesel when the cam phasers are bad.....
but it doesn't hurt it to drive it like that.

You'll either get a code or the engine run barely.

Genius BMW decided on phasers without any keying to the camshaft. Just tighten and pray.

On my Lexus, you can watch the target and actual VVTi cam phasing angles via OBD2.
I've had it throw P1349 or P1354 when the Oil Control Valves start to fail.
