As I was using my 22mm hex 3/8 drive socket to adjust preload on the forks today I thought to myself, "Self, wouldn't it be nice if someone made a socket this size in composite poly or something so you wouldn't tink up your brand new virgin looking pre-load nuts ... "

Alas. But no. Not that I can find.

I just put some masking tape between the nut and the socket to protect from marring. But good point nonetheless!

Alternatively if you have access to a 3d printer you can make your own sized to your needs. Or there are places where you can send them a model and they'll print it for you

If you have an old t-shirt, bed sheet, or whatever that's thin fabric, you can put that over the adjuster, and still fit a socket on. Except now the you won't damage the adjuster, or other nuts/bolts you don't want to mar.

If you were doing this all the time, I'd invest in socket inserts, etc.

A paper towel works too.
