Saw this on my Slickdeals app. I'm not really into magazines but for 4 years and $12, that's $0.25 a month.

$28 coupon code: 86203

Actually, toward the end of checkout, you get the option to auto-renew for the same price of $12, so after 4 years you can get 4 more years for $12 if that's what you want.

Use a "disposable" card number (citibank does this) as the auto-renew can be aggravating if you don't want it. I had to call Hot Rod 2x to get them to stop... once before my "due date" and once after.

Too bad they don't have a swimsuit issue like SI. Then I'd be all over that deal.

Motor Trend is to automotive journalism what... well.... I don't think there's a parallel in any other business.

I do think that the publication would be good for a 16 year old. It serves as the advertorial publication for the industry. They lie like cheap rugs at a Turkish bazaar when it comes to their reviews. It's a shill operation of the lowest form.

All I'm going to tell you is that when the publication in question coordinates a parade in honor of an OEM, which recently happened with Honda, you can be sure that they're taking a glancing eye at their readership while staring intently at their corporate masters.

Take it from someone who has been in the business for a long time. A teen who is looking for a quality magazine is better off with C&D, R&T, and countless other online publications. Save Motor Trend for your pet parrot.

Great price though. Well worth the pictures. Just don't read the articles unless you're playing Mad Libs and need a few dozen adjectives and adverbs.

Go to YouTube and punch in "fitness motivation"

That should keep you busy for about 8 hours. grin2

I'd also add to use a disposable email address if you ever need to contact them, like to replace a missing or damaged issue.

TEN, the publisher, will use it to relentlessly bombard you with newsletters you never signed up for, and offers for all of their magazines.

Editorially, I tried MT on a cheap deal like this after hearing about how they'd improved since the COTY award-for-sale days, and knowing that former staffers from others like R&T were now part of MT.

I still didn't find it to my taste and didn't renew.

To borrow a term from Leon Mandel, all of these car rags need to be read with a conscious lookout for "jaundiced eye." But they're a cheap way of keeping up on things for little money.

I've had a subscription for thirty some years. MT used to have excellent technical articles but hardly anything technical in the last few years. There is nothing I can relate to in MT now so I am letting my subscription expire in 18. Nothing there for me anymore. cry
