Found this torn boot during a TC fluid change. What does it do and should it be replaced?

Is it the slip yoke that goes to the rear axle?

I would replace it, im sure it's to keep out dirt, ect.. It may slide in and out a little with your suspention ...
Replace it before dirt and water contaminates the grease leading to more expensive problems

I just checked it looks like a boot where the front drive shaft connects to the transfer case. Weird, I took pics and it was there a few months ago. During that time there was some dealer work for the exhaust y pipe and a transmission mount. This boot is in close proximity of the transmission mount but I can't imagine how that would be damaged during the replacement of the mount. You can see the new transmission mount in the bottom pic its to the right.

I was just going to ask if it was in to the dealer for any repair work recently and if they did any repair work in the area. That was my first question after reading the OP.
