While both above oils are SN , starburst seal oils - only the M1 5W30 oil is Dexos 1 approved . I get that there is no need for a Dexos 1 approved M1 10W30 - mainly curious what the M1 10W30 may be missing in the way of ad pak , etc. as compared to the Dexos 1 approved M1 5W30 and if there is much difference in performance with the M1 10W30 ?

I believe it meets all dexos1 standards EXCEPT fuel economy. It's not missing anything.

I do not think that 10W30 is a dexos approved viscosity grade. Simple as that. If it was I'm sure M1 10W30 would pass Dexos approval.

I think GM are trying to simplify how much an average owner (non-BITOG) needs to think about oil. If it's Dexos it's good. By selecting 5W30 over 10W30 for the dexos 30 grade, it should work in all climates, including the very cold.

The KV @ 100C. difference is interesting as the 5W30 is 11.0 vs. the 10.1 of the 10W30 .

I would like to see the difference between Mobil 1 5/30 and Mobil 1 HM 10/30. I would pick the M1 HM 10/30
over the M1 5/30 even if it is DEXOS.

Mobil1 HM 10w30 is a thick 30 oil, almost 40 weight with HTHS 3.8, where M1 5w-30 is thin oil with HTHS 3.0.
Recently I gave up with M1 non EP due to shear very fast, for HM I find it is great especially on the clean up effect.

I was referring to the post directly above mine which stated M1 10w-30 HM has HTHS of 3.8...rather than 3.5.
