I am changing oil in my Honda today. I was at Walmart earlier today and picked 4 quarts of Synpower 0W20 off the shelf, it is regular priced at $7.97/quart. Napa has it on sale for $5.69/quart. I had the Napa ad in hand and went to the TLE cashier and asked about matching the Napa price. He gave me an odd look and a guy standing behind him that must have been a manager just said in a very blunt and apathetic tone "We don't do price matching any more. Stopped doing it a month ago." I just said OK and put the oil and filter back the basket and said I would put everything back on the shelf. The manager was completely unconcerned with my dissatisfaction and did not care at all that he was losing a sale over a dollar and change difference in the price of a few quarts of motor oil.

I wanted to find a different manager and ask if they really had stopped price matching but the store was an absolute zoo and I was not going to waste any more time there trying to save a few bucks. I went to Autozone and bought 5 quarts of STP/Amalie 0W20 and a Fram filter for $24.94 on a sale that is not in this month's AZ sales ad but is on the AZ web site when you search for 0W20 oil. The AZ guy had to change the prices but he was happy to honor the sale, no questions asked.

Is that how it really is at Walmart? They don't price match any more? I had never tried it myself until today, but had read about BITOGER's getting prices matched there. I guess it is one more reason to avoid Walmart unless it is absolutely necessary.

My local WalMart (rural Virginia) has had signs up for over a year now saying they no longer price match.

Yes, this has already happened across most stores around here.

The other day I noticed a sign at a store that said price matching would end on September 8th 2017, but that Walmart had already stopped price matching other stores about a year ago. Perhaps now they will no longer price match Walmart.com.

Yes, it seems Walmart wants to eventually end price matching. They have rolled this out on a gradual basis. I googled Walmart ends price matching and got lots of hits smile

I also found out that Amazon no longer price matches, except for TV's

That isn't a problem if you shop wisely you find the best prices and Wally World isn't the answer all to your shopping.

Walmart isn't even on my radar, in the last 5 years the only thing I have purchased there was the $48 car battery. Horrific shopping experience.

Yeah, pretty sure the ones around me don't price match other retailers either.

On another note, I never understood the Walmart hate on here. All the stores I've gone to are clean and have a normal clientele. IDK what kind of trashy locations some of you are going to...

Oh well. Thanks for the info. It's not like I shop there a lot anyway. I bet WM loses a lot of business because of their apathy though. My local AZ was and usually is a much better shopping experience.

You should've got a Fram XG while you were at Walmart.

You got your oil cheaper but ended up with an orange can with cardboard inside.

Screw China Mart

I'll gladly go and use the Rural King near me and one 30 miles near dads house. Even "Harvest King" oil everyday price is better than ST price

They stopped it because who wants to stand in line while somebody fumbles around with sales papers.

They have Savings Catcher now, and I have been using it for over a year at least. Saved lots of money personally. Don't have to go to the other stores. Walmart price matches through Savings Catcher, and we get the difference with an eGift card.

Pricing match is a slow race for the bottom.

What are retailer supposed to do, eventually just sell everything at cost?

the Walmart 'hate' comes from a dislike of their business practices, how they deal with vendors, their long term negative effect on small, locally owned businesses, domestic manufacturing, etc., etc. Personally I won't shop there..ever...but to each his own.
