Hi,

I use Office 2016. when I open Excel file, Excel will show a warning message "Unknown error trying to lock file."

Does anybody can help how to fix it? I tried to reinstall Excel or repair, but still has this problem.

Thanks

I'm no computer GURU but, can you start your computer in Safe Mode? Then run an updated Antivirus program and Malwarebyts Malware program. You may very well have a virus. Let us know how you solved the problem. Ed

Are these local files on your computer or shared with you via Sharepoint?

1.This may occur if the Excel file is too large and beyond the limits Excel can handle. Check your file size.

2. Open Run box, type excel /s and hit Enter to open Excel in Safe Mode. Now try to open that Excel file.

3. Restart your computer and try again.

4. Perform Clean Boot and see if you still receive this error.

5. Also you can find info here http://www.erepairexcel.com/

Hope something helps.

I'd rename it in case there is a cached and read-only lock file from a previous open.
