Hi everyone,

Found this video of an engine teardown, Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 was used.

How does the environment for a marine engine compared to, say, over the road semi-trucks? The engine looks to be in good shape.

Thoughts?

Go to commercial marine operations that run gas and high speed diesels and HDEOs are what the operators run.

I would say similar load and rpm, will marine adding the salt factor.

Very few freezing starts. Most bilges are above 32*F 99% of the time.

Loaded engines with pretty decent cooling (water/water heat exchangers, and oil coolers) running constant RPM for minutes/hours/days at a time. Very seldom overspeeds ...

Race boats are different. If they get "air" they can easily overspeed. That's why off-shore race boats have a throttle man who does that exclusively - keep the RPM in check when they air-out ...

Formerly in marine engineering. In an earlier life I owned my own petroleum tank truck, and hauled for the majors and independent's.

Lots of diesel/electric kit - SCR DC phased out by VFD/AC - big ones run slow speed and 15 TBN marine Dino ... like MobilGard or Castrol MHP ...
