I have a few quarts of Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W40, would it be ok to use in a Honda GX390 generator at 50 hr intervals? My only concern is its API SH.

M1 Racing 4T is SH because it contains a fairly high concentration of ZDDP, around the 1300ppm mark i believe, but it's a very good oil, here in Europe we have Racing 4T 15W-50, no 10W-40, a friend of mine has run it in his TVR 3000M Race car ( Ford V6 with Triple Weber carbs ) and it is perfect and squeaky clean inside.
I think it should be perfectly fine.

Thanks. Ive always noticed what Cujet said about running 15W50 in these engines, I'm not doubting what he said at all, I'm just hesistant to run a 50 weight in it. Im sure a 40 will do fine, I usually run a 15W40 in it.

I use What ever Xw-40 HDEO I have left over from My wife's Ford diesel trucks oil change. 15W-50 works great in ope engines . I would run 15w-50 if I were to make a special trip buy an ope oil. Starting temps considered.

I was worried about 15W50 being too thick as its not a pressurized system, almost certain it has a slinger.

I don't know what he says, but I've never had any issues with a -40 or -50 oil in any OPE engines.

This subject comes up once in a while. Interestingly, again and again, certain oils provide excellent protection in air cooled engines. Among them are the Mobil 1 oils: Mx4t 10W-40 and the associated 20W-50 V-Twin, 5W-40 TDT and the robust 15W-50.

All of those oils have a stout ability to provide excellent lubrication under very high heat conditions without excessive shearing. High HTHS.

The 10W-40 is an ideal choice for that engine in hot climates.

People who count on their fingers should maintain a discreet silence.

If that is motorcycle oil it doesn't have as much friction modifiers as automobile oil.
