Hi just replaced both upper ball joints on a toyota tacoma the joints came with a white grease but instead i used schaeffer's 278 polyurea. i was thinking it had to be better than the toyota grease. what do you think?
The 274 is okay but its more of a high speed grease, personally I use the Schaeffer 238 for front end parts, they are slow moving highly loaded parts so the 5% moly really helps.
Just replaced the upper ball joints on my F-150 and used 274. Been using it for years and works for me. To Trav's point the 238 does have more moly, but IIRC 274 has 3%, so still a healthy dose.
I cant find any mention of moly in the 278 though. Yes the 274 has 3% and the 238 5% moly, either would be preferable to the 278 for front end joints IMO.
yea the schaeffer's 238 sound great! the upper ball joint is sealed for life it's greased at installation no zerk. the only grease i had on hand was valvoline synpower and schaeffer's 278 so i went with the 278.
