Installing brake pads on my LS400. I noticed on the NEW OEM Toyota pads that there is this shaved down area on each end of each pad. Should they be installed with the shaved end up on one side of the rotor and the other side down on the rotor? I'm thinking the shaved off end of the pads should be diagonal on the rotor.

OR does it matter?

Are you talking about a chamfer on the pads? If they were not on both sides of the pad I usually install them so the chamfer faces rotor movement, which would be different depending on if the caliper is mounted on the front or rear of the axle.

Yes. Chamfer is just on one end of the pad. Caliper is mounted on the rear. So I should mount the pads with the chamfer down?

It seems like they should be the same, since they're usual;ly symmetrical.

Take a picture of them

Chamfer was just in one end of each pad.
