I have a MH on a 14 Ford E350 chassis with the V-10 and automatic trans. The trans pan has a drain plug in it. It has 20k of hard use so I thought about just draining and replacing the fluid with out dropping the pan. Does anyone have an idea how much fluid will drain from the pan? Looks like I have to order the Motorcraft fluid in a case of 12 qts.

The amount you drain can vary, so just get a measuring pan or something. Motorcraft is good, but there are many officially-licensed Mercon LV fluids out there that may be priced less than Motorcraft smile

I've done a drain and fill in my fusion and it took about 4.5qt. Total capacity of the tranny is 9qt

I would think a case would get you at least one drain and fill.

I tried some googling and didn't have any luck. My best guess is a 15qt total capacity and you'll get half of that out.

I'd call the dealer or invest in a Haynes manual or similar

You can buy Motorcraft LV fluid at O'Reillys, if you have those nearby. You can also buy it from the dealer obviously and they shouldn't require you to buy a full case.

Get an empty gallon milk jug or two and your measuring cup and start filling it up and marking the outside of the jug in 4-8oz. Increments. Then drain the trans and measure what comes out with your measuring jugs.

I would guess pulling the drain plug will get you between 3 and 6 qts.

Do you have a dipstick to fill it up through?

If it were mine, I'd drain and fill the pan every other oil change or so.

There are many name brand transmission fluids that carry the mercon lv spec.

Amsoil lists (2) transmissions - 4R75E and 5R110W

They say

4R75E
Initial fill - 5 quarts
Total fill - 13.8 quarts

5R110W
Initial fill - 7.5
Total fill - 18.7

Typically, 1/3 to 1/2 comes out with a drain plug drain. I guess getting 12 quarts wouldn't be a bad idea.

MH with the V10 will be the 5R110. Ford never put the 4R75 behind anything over the 4.6.

6-7 quarts sounds about right for a drain and fill.

Don't forget to check for a torque converter drain on that thing. You might have one, which will get you a lot more fluid out.

When I drop the pan and replace the filter in my F250 (has a 6R140W transmission), i get about 7.5 quarts of Mercon LV out. I'd just get the case.

Thanks all. In looking around I haven't seen any LV in other brands so I'll keep looking.

I got a bucket at Home Depot. It's 12 qts and it has quart measurement on the inside. The Explorer does not have a dip stick so I'll drain it let the ATF cool down then put back whatever the cooled amount reads. At least the fill is easy to get to. I recently got a case of Mercon LV(12 qts)from Rock Auto, it was $60 delivered and I got it in 3 days.

Kendall Versatrans LV is licensed for Mercon LV and is under $5 / qt. delivered if you buy a case of 12 qts. It's what I used recently in the 6R80 in my wife's Mustang. It's made by Phillips 66 who also manufacture Motorcraft Mercon LV.

Super Tech Full Synthetic Multi Vehicle ATF is Mercon LV licensed if produced by Warren and is $5.50 / qt. when bought in gallon jugs and $6 /qt. as individual qts.

Pennzoil Platinum MVLV ATF is licensed for Mercon LV and is on sale for $6 / qt. at Pep Boys

Plenty of choices out there for licensed Mercon LV ATF.
