my landscapper did a lot of work @ the house today.

I caught him adding/ measuring some stuff from a 1 gallon can and adding it to the bulk tank in his truck.

We got talking and he said he uses " a little " diesel in all his 4 cycle stuff.

Quads,trucks,boat ect.

When i asked what " a little " was he said he adds 1 or 2 oz per gallon.

His bulk pump was 30 gallons and he added 1 qt today.

It kinda makes sense IF diesel is just oil.

Am i missing Something?

It used to be an idea that had widespread use. But with the advent of ultra-low sulfur diesel some of the lubricating qualities have gone down.

It'd be OK in a vehicle that does not have a CAT. With CAT in place, you will be adding ash to the CAT load as it burns off the residual oil (some % will always not burn) ...

Formerly in marine engineering. In an earlier life I owned my own petroleum tank truck, and hauled for the majors and independent's.

Added 28 oz of diesel to my 27ish gallon tank in the expedition.

The motor is quieter during the high idle start. Everything else seems the same.

I kinda sorta feel feel more power when i go up huge incline on the way home. its a 4 mile steep incline, the only time i feel a difference is during the higher rpms.
