Does Advance not give a 40% off anymore? The best code I could find was 30%.

Great question.. Best I've been able to find lately is 30% off as well, and I'm having to look harder for those.

I haven't seen a 40% off in some time, only 30%.
I loved have the 40% when I had $100 to spend.
I especially like the 50% off $125 or more(available to the first 500-1000 customers). This was great for buying new car batteries(AutoCraft GOLD).

Another code# that was decent(haven't seen this either), was the $10 off $30

AAP rebates are nowhere near as favorable as they were in the not too distant past. They are a lower discount % wise and they restrict the maximum discount you can receive from what I've seen. You just have to shop around carefully. I recently checked out AAP and Rock Auto for a 12qt case of Mercon LV. Even with the AAP discount and the free shipping it was still $22 more expensive for the 12qt case than Rock Auto and paying the shipping.

I had a 40% code that I used in May to buy rotors/pads/shoes for our Highlander. I used the 40% off on two orders since it qualified. There was also a $15 AAP rebate for each order. This was for Carquest products. I also got two $20 off $50 AAP Rewards certs.

Long story short: Even with the 40% and the rebates, it still was no deal. Not even close. And the hassle factor was high. More details below as to why.

And to make it worse, when I returned the items last week, the store manager said buying in two orders and using the 40% off code was against policy. I asked, well then why did it work. He did not have an answer but he did the return. He also told me I was outside the 60 day return window when their web site clearly states 90 days.

Lastly, the deal might have been decent if I could have used the rebates and reward certs to buy oil for my car (M1 5W50), but they sell it at $9.50 a qt and would not match NAPA's sale price of $5.50.

I'm done with AAP and Carquest and their [censored] codes and their crazy inflated prices.

yep I have stopped dealing with them unless dire emergency. Rockauto beats them because I can pick the brand name of the part I want, and price is usually similar.

Yep much fewer codes now it seems. My orders with RockAuto has also increased. Weird how that works. wink

But 5 qt Mobil 1 jugs for 28.99 + a $10 MIR == $18.99. Limit is 2 though. Denso filters from RockAuto, and you're talking dino oil prices for maintenance.

I've been buying more from RA too.

I used to be able to get the same part from AAP and still save money by using this code.

Give people drugs (nearly unlimited uses to coupons to secure massive discounts) too long and then try to use it against the customers that do use your own pricing/discount model? Their stores and website need to get on the same page and until then they can keep the 40% off if it's not really a deal. They could, ya know, mark the items a little more sanely without the crazy inflated tag online hoping people will use said discount codes and to those that don't know these codes you cover the cost of giving discounts to others? But, hey, #inventorymovement? crazy

All it will take is Amazon to beef up their 1 hour Prime Now Inventory and the parts stores are done.

They are already beating them on Motor oil, and I can have any part in the universe in two days.

The thing with amazon is they don't even need to make any money on auto parts, they can just do it for market share.

How much is Prime per year? I'm guessing $80 or so.

It's $99 a year, but every once in a while they run some kind of special where it's $79, but it's not that regular. I think if you're on food stamps, it's $5.99 a month.

But for the record, they're horrible for parts, they need to beef up their search, their recommendations or lack of them are somewhat extreme. Rockauto is much better at finding the right part and they also beat Amazon half the time even with shipping. AAP was competitive with Amazon with the 40%, but now less so. Their only advantage they have is their warranty. Do you want to pay to ship a muffler, axle, alternator, strut, etc to make use of a lifetime warranty? How about a car battery? Easier to just bring it to the store. It's actually rare that I buy parts from Amazon, either AAP, rockauto, speciality store (because Amazon doesn't carry it) or the dealer if you're in a pinch.

I just find the parts on RA I need and search that number on Amazon. Then, just figure out price with shipping and make the call. thumbsup

My attitude, all good things come to an end. As noted, appears 'currently' no 40% off code afaik just a 30% off any order. In January I posted an AAP 40% off no minimum code which hadn't been seen in awhile. Those that posted replies and used it seemed pleased, at least at the time.

That said, from reading on bitog unlike some/many on bitog I never looked at AAP codes as an entitlement, ie., something I deserved or that would always be there or be the same. Rather just grateful for the money I've saved using AAP codes over the years. Things change.

I see many comparisons to Rock Auto, apples and oranges to me. RA purely online and I can't order and pick up the part today like AAP. I compare AAP to the other b&m stores like Napa, AZ, O'R and PepBoys. Any other b&m AP stores offering equal to or better than 30% of any order like current AAP code? Rock Auto and Amazon (which I use) in a different category to me. My .02
