Just finished an oil change on our 98 F-150 with 4.6L V8. 225,000 miles on the truck. 6,000 on this oil change. Oil was ST Synthetic 5w-30. Filter looks like it did fine.

Thanks for posting. I've been a long time user of Motorcraft FL820S. I currently have 194,000 miles on our 2005 4.6 Explorer, which used these filters for most of it's life, some with the yellow PureOne oil filters. We've owned this vehicle since new so it's been well cared for. Early oil changes were 5,000 miles when under the 75,000 mile warranty. Afterwards they went to 7,500-9,000 mile OCI's. The oil still comes out a dark bronze and looking in the oil fill shows it to be relatively clean.

Thank You CB4017, I have been using FL820 filters on my wife's 3.0L in her freestyle since day 0ne , good to see the motorcraft quality is still there , i was getting worried about all of the tearolater stories here on BITOG

The 820S been the bad actor so to speak in some anecdotes of the MC line up. Seam pleat spacing on the wide side, but this one appears to have agreed (no tears) with your 4.6L oci/fci practice.

Thanks for c&p.

The quality of the Motorcraft oil filters may not be what it once was. I have torn an FL820S and have found rust on the metal parts of the filter element on at least two FL820S that were less than 4 months old.

Your outcome was really nice.

Thanks for the cut & post.
